Aix and it shall be given

AnElephantCant think of many towns better
Than vibrant picturesque Aix-en-Provence
He wants you to know
That Le Cours Mirabeau
Is one of the best streets in all of La France

La vieille ville is really quite beautiful
With a cathedral dating from the 12th century
AnElephant feels sure
That the architecture
Satisfies even his random adventuring

The narrow back streets feed magnificent boulevards
Interspersed with large and small places
Throughout this cool town
Plane trees abound
Under which AnElephant dines on a delightful terrasse

Street scenes in Aix-en-Provence

Street scenes in Aix-en-Provence

Aix is a city of glorious fountains
Some of which are great dauds* of raw stone
Covered in green moss
Wreathed in an air of vague loss
They remind him of Steinbeck’s To a God Unknown

There are bands and dancers on every street corner
The climax of some great music festival
You think that this time
AnElephantCant find a rhyme
But he does what he does best and it’s awful

He is now on the last leg of his journey
He hopes you enjoy the wee rhymes you have read
1,200 kilometres of France
Prove AnElephant can dance
And have fun all the way from La Manche à La Med

* la vieille ville – the old town
places – squares
terrasse – outdoor area
La Manche à La Med – The English Channel to the Mediterranean Sea

*dauds – Scots for lumps, pieces

    Several years ago
    a Wanderer spent some time
    in this town, you know.
    And, stumbling on this rhyme,
    It took me back
    to the sunlit streets
    the cobblestones black
and all the cheese I could eat.
    Merci pour cette balade
    sur la route de memoire
d’un ville que je vais toujors souvenir!

    AnElephant does make me smile
The way that he rhymes with stories
And the how he does dance
Down to the other end of France
Showing us all of it’s glories.
