Educational Elephant by Phil Burns

Educational Elephant by Phil Burns

AnElephantCant claim he’s linguistic
He has not yet quite taken leave of his senses
But he finds fascination
In this new education
Some languages apparently do not employ different tenses

Instead they use only the present
Much as AnElephant does when he contrives a wee rhyme
This is quite a surprise
He does not realise
He is a pioneer of the concept of All Time

But he returns to the point of this nonsense
Before both his readers sigh and walk off shaking their heads in deep sorrow
To indicate what is done
And what is yet to come
They use the same verb in association with yesterday or tomorrow

AnElephant totally approves of this construct
He is always a bit of a buffoon at the jolly old grammar
If his school days are not curbed
With this emphasis on verbs
He spends more much-needed time on fashion and glamour

Please for a moment imagine if language is simple
No more wouldn’ts or couldn’ts or shouldn’ts
Instead of being  a dunce
He has longer for lunch
He can help himself to another plateful of pudding

So AnElephant has an astonishingly controversial suggestion
He finishes his rambling rhyme with a wonderful wallop
Abandon these rules
Have more fun in schools
And hope that your imperfect scribe does not just make this drivel all up

About AnElephantCant

An artist/writer/poet combination whose blogs reflect an approach to life that celebrates nature and takes a tongue-in-cheek view of most issues. So you get rhymes and doodles, photographs and comment. Irreverent and irrelevant. Occasionally funny, sometimes serious, mostly pointless. https://anelephantcant.me/

    Phooey, drop those burden
    Flottons dans le présent
    dans le courant de maintenant
    ou le temps n’existe pas
    et on ne change pas.

    I couldn’t wouldn’t shouldn’t agree more
I do believe AnElephant is right
    Some use of words
    Is completely absurd
    And language is completely contrite

  7. Very entertaining sir elephant, I agree with the rules, they do get in the way at times…….so good luck with the pedants who will shower down on you their vitriol for ever suggesting such lawlessness. But its worth a try.
