Olive Olive Oh!

Olives by Phil Burns

Olives by Phil Burns

AnElephantCant say what he prefers most
He loves each thing that grows and all things that live
But he plans to be brave
And confess that his new fave
Is no longer peanuts but the magical Mediterranean olive

Now it comes in two dramatically differing contrasting colours
Which is not something that interests your colour-blind scribe particularly
But he finds it more gripping
If it still has its pip in
Because with a trunk and a tusk he can remove it spectacularly

AnElephant’s local café has the appropriate appellation The Eden
Because this wee town is paradise for man beast or fish
But he can quite happily
Ignore anything apple-y
In exchange for a few of these delicious wee dudes in a dish

An olive can be marinated and salty
It can be beautifully black but gorgeous green does just as nicely
It may be soaked in herbs
But the only time it disturbs
Is when it is steeped in hot peppers that AnElephant finds too spicy

You can use it to add taste to your mealtimes
With jambon et fromage it is the prefect flavourful foil
But Popeye ate spinach
To fight to the finish
So why is his goil friend confusingly called Olive Oyl

The olive is hugely helpfully healthful
Good for the buttocks and good for the thighs
Wonderful for the heart
Fantastic for a wee fart
It always brings a satisfied smile to AnElephant’s angelic baby blue eyes
