waves

waves by anelephantcant

the pine cone bobs on gentle waves
can’t ever wash up on the beach
like winter love that cools too soon
it stays just out of reach

the dredger scrapes across the bay
clearing channels for the boats
he wonders if he’ll find a way
to clear his pain-filled thoughts

the sun sets yellow in the west
the clouds are low and moody
depression sinks deep in his soul
his mind confused and brooding

the pebbles crunch beneath his boots
as he stumbles out the jetty
the hunger gnaws his empty heart
his appetite unwhetted

the waves are now much brisker
as they crash upon the shore
he thinks he must be near the end
he knows he can’t endure much more

ten cranes stand straight in muddy fields
looking regal as flamingos
can they really build a better world
or does it depend which way the wind blows

About AnElephantCant

An artist/writer/poet combination whose blogs reflect an approach to life that celebrates nature and takes a tongue-in-cheek view of most issues. So you get rhymes and doodles, photographs and comment. Irreverent and irrelevant. Occasionally funny, sometimes serious, mostly pointless. https://anelephantcant.me/
