Prime Number – Sunday Photo Fiction

AnElephantCant do sums very well
He can’t add or subtract any number
He can almost count to four
But never any more
Perhaps he is really a Dumbo

This is a weekly invitation to write a short piece of fiction (c. 150 words) based on a photo prompt (below) provided by Joe Owens.
Just click on the link to see innumerable enchanting epics in response to this week’s excellent prompt.
But please first cast an eye over AnElephant’s miserable miscount.

Prime Number

I have held her captive for ages now.
I caught her because I thought she was perfect.
She is beautiful, I suppose, but in actual fact quite far from perfect.
At least in my eyes.
And I don’t just mean the whining.
Or the sobbing and pleading, which are really irritating.
Seriously, I sometimes wish I hadn’t bothered.
It might have been better to have kept it as a dream, an imaginary romance.
But I didn’t, so we have to make the best of it.
But she doesn’t see that.
I am only doing this for her benefit now, so I will love her again.
I have been told I suffer from OCD.
I don’t know if that is true, but I do know that I don’t like even numbers.
Or odd numbers that aren’t prime.
And she has ten fingers and ten toes.
So isn’t it obvious what I have to do?

About AnElephantCant

An artist/writer/poet combination whose blogs reflect an approach to life that celebrates nature and takes a tongue-in-cheek view of most issues. So you get rhymes and doodles, photographs and comment. Irreverent and irrelevant. Occasionally funny, sometimes serious, mostly pointless. https://anelephantcant.me/

Aarrgh! Who’s gonna clean up the mess, hey?
You took emmy on a torturous tale
wishing she had three digits more or less
    just in case…

1 toe but still 10 fingers.
1 toe and 1 finger, now nine of each which equals 18!
    Got to keep going.

I think she is in for a miserable night, and messy.

Hope that he counts fingers AND toes (only one to remove). If he only counts fingers, he has to take three.
