no name

all the faces by phil burns

Click here to hear the poet read his words:

no name

sometimes I waken in the night
from a dream or distant star
I hear you breathing close to me
but I’m not sure who you are

others too have walked with me
and held my crippled hand
but they are now just memories
no matter what they might have planned

so when my thoughts drift to the past
all the faces look the same
by the time I leave tomorrow
you too will have no name

you once whispered that you loved me
now your voice is strident loud
and very soon the rain will fall
from your small but bitter cloud

so when I waken in the night
from a dream or some place far
and hear you breathing close to me
I don’t care who you are
