obscurity

obscurity

whenever she’s not here with me
I feel the night surround me
and then I know the loneliness
as darkness closes round me

in my mind I see her smiling
sweet innocence and purity
then the light goes out and I am left
abandoned in obscurity

I wander by the water’s edge
breathe a frown a tear a sigh
watch tiny fish glint deep below
twinkling stars in dark green sky

I view my whole life in slow motion
what a wasted time I think
and like the darting silver fish
to blacker depths I sink

and once again my thoughts drift back
to the time when I first met her
when first I looked into her eyes
knew I never could forget her

sadly I now learn life’s greatest truth
as I pursue her still in vain
find searching through my memories
pleasure leaves long before the pain

CE (Pinky’)When I read your poems I’m always struck by the shear terror or chills of fear I read in much of your flash fiction, and the poignant sadness, even depression and loneliness in your poems. I think your poems strike me all the worse, a lack of hope “ then the light goes out and I am left / abandoned in obscurity.” I pray despite the poets voice that there is hope and happiness despite “abandonment” and “obscurity.” Take of yourself. Hugs 🤗

    • Oh Amanda, I’m not sure what to say.
On one hand I am delighted to know my words can evoke such emotion, but on the other I am horrified that you are so affected by them.
Please, don’t fret, they are just poems.
